Malaysian Men Dominate in Wispa Tour
Internationally recognized squash players in the women’s division compete in the semi-final round of the Wispa tour held on the National Squash Center in Bukit Jalil. This round will be participated in by Malaysia’s top seeded women athletes who are all among the popular names in the present squash league, and covered in squash kit.
The Wispa Tour is the seventh instalment of the NSC series. The tour traverses countries all over the world who maintain an avid squash playing populace. To date, the tour has reached major cities in the west such as New York, Dallas, Monte Carlo and Mexico City in the Americas, and Dublin in Europe. In the Middle East and Asia, the tour has graced the cities of Doha, Cairo, Singapore, Shanghai, Hongkong and Kuala Lumpur. It has also reached Melbourne in Australia. The Wispa Tour is hosted by a different country every year as most international squash tournaments.
In the men’s category, Ivan Yuen from Malaysia overcame Jan Koukal of the Czech Republic. Yuen is one of the recognized national junior champions, and the country’s top seed for the tournament. Koukal, on the other hand, was last year’s winner. He showed a terrific victory in the NSC Series number 6 finish in the semi-finals round. This year however, Koukal was outsmarted by Yuen. Yuen won over Koukal in an 11-8, 5-11, 11-6. 4-11, 11-5. Yuen went further to go against Nafiizwan Adnan, the top third squash player in the national ranking.
Nafiizwan’s record in the tournament was marked with victories over other tight playing contenders. He stunned Max Lee from Hongkong in the semi-finals round. His four last matches culminated in a 7-11, 12-10, 11-6 and 12-10 tally against Yasir Butt from Pakistan. Butt has just found a more tactful scheme to bet Asyraf Azan, another national player, in a defining 8-11, 11-13, 11-4, 11-7 and 12-10 squash match.
